- Approve Minutes of February 7, 2013
The commission approved the minutes of February 7, 2013.
New Business
*Linda suggested an educational sign for the barrier plantings garden at Rogers Lake be added to the budget. Members voted unanimously in favor of adding the sign to the budget. George asked that Earth Day be added to the line item T-shirts for clarification. Lauralyn will pass this information on to Tom and he will submit the final budget to the town hall.
- Priorities/Items for 2013
The list of priority items was reviewed; storm drains for the Rogers Lake area were discussed and added to the list. George will add this finalized list to the Conservation Corner on Lymeline.
This item was postponed due to absent members.
Lauralyn shared news of the climate rally she attended in DC on February 17. Linda mentioned there were several members of the FCCOL Environmental Committee that attended the rally as well. Additionally, Lauralyn mentioned a few bills being heard at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford – a bill requiring the labeling of GMOs and a bill that would prevent fracking waste from being transported through CT.
Ongoing Business
Lauralyn updated members on the planning that has taken place for Old Lyme’s 2nd Community Earth Day. The event will be held at the FCCOL on April 28 from 2-4pm with a set-up time of 1pm. Many of the groups and organizations that participated in 2012 have enthusiastically signed on for this year. There are a number of new participants as well. Sue and Lauralyn will rework the flyer from last year and get a save the date out for the town calendar, to Region 18 and to Lymeline. Lauralyn and Linda will meet to get the particulars from the FCCOL on the set-up.
Members agreed to use the Beyond Pesticides article on mosquitoes that Lauralyn shared for the next issue of Events. Maureen will submit this article for the commission.
Lauralyn reported the banner is back from the sign shop and was fixed at no cost to the town. The banner is scheduled to make its second showing over Halls Road at the beginning of April.
No news to report.
Sue shared news that Lyme does not want to finance on-going suction harvesting of the lake. As the weeds that are present will not be completely eradicated by any of the methods known (suctioning, toxins), it will continue to be an effort to reduce the quantity of invasives in the lake.
Conservation Commission members will continue to support the efforts of the Rogers Lake Authority.
Members agreed the Conservation Commission will install a box containing dog bags at Hains Park. Lauralyn offered a mailbox she no longer uses to be recycled for this project, Maureen will paint the mailbox and George will paint the post and install this new addition to the park. Members discussed the bags that will be used. This is a line item in the proposed budget for 2013.
.
The regulations meet with the approval of the members.
The meeting adjourned at 8:55 pm.
